The Systems Administrator (SA) position is the onsite MICROSOFT, UNIX, SQL, and PC specialist responsible for maintaining, planning, and recommending computer system changes within Department of State Passport Book Personalization Facility. In addition to the primary responsibilities the SA will answer help desk calls and act as a liaison between local government and contract staff, providing Tier2/Tier3 support. Systems support includes, but is not limited to, TDIS-PD, MS Office, MS Access, Adobe Acrobat, Symantec A/V software, Symantec Ghost, MS SharePoint and other DoS-specific client and web-based applications.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
The SA will implement agency and Department of State management policies, security policies and procedures, and operating procedures as defined by Passport Services, Passport Systems, Consular Affairs, and other bureaus or offices (e.g. Diplomatic Security, Information Management Liaison, etc.). Performance of various tasks and major assignments related to passport production operations and/or the passport systems network operations including, but not limited to, adjusting site configurations to meet changing compliance requirements; managing site security configurations; coordinating with site management for future or ongoing site audits and inspections; and working with agency management to streamline and optimize system operations balancing system security, system operations, and workflow requirements.
The SA must demonstrate good judgment in the use, maintenance, and administration of the Local, Wide Area, and PC networks, using TCP/IP protocols; must demonstrate good judgment in resolving system issues related to the operating systems; and must demonstrate good judgment in the maintenance of relational database management systems (RDMS) software. The SA interfaces with the senior Government personnel at the facility and the Contractor Operations Manager (CGI Federal) for computer related issues and assists with writing internal computer system control procedures. Other duties include the maintenance of data and the Microsoft, UNIX and other application privileges, accounts, and password, and the Microsoft, and UNIX backup procedures to protect against data loss. Works closely with the Government passport systems offices on ADP issues and insures that the integrated nationwide passport issuance system remains operational at all agencies. May work with the Government officials and other computer personnel to recommend modifications and conduct systems analysis. Assists the Government in developing the specifications, scheduling milestones, and cost estimates for projects relating to passport services at the Book Personalization Facility. Monitors the progress of projects and assures that the system equipment Contractor (CGI Federal) complies with the specifications, scheduling, and cost objectives set by the Government.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
•A minimum of three (3) years of ADP experience.
•A minimum of three (3) years of Microsoft network experience.
•A minimum of two (2) years of SQL Server and database experience.
•A minimum of two (2) years of UNIX.
•A minimum of one (1) year of data communications protocol and procedures.
•A minimum of one (1) year of scanning software and hardware experience.
•A minimum of one (1) year management/supervisory experience.
•A minimum of three (3) years hands-on PC use and troubleshooting experience.
•A minimum of two (2) years’ experience with LAN/WAN, microcomputer communications, network programming languages, and DBMS software.
Ability to travel to the Arkansas facility for up to 6 weeks in length
Able to lift and carry 35lb, boxes and/or equipment
Ability to successfully complete a Background Investigation to include; 50 State Criminal, Education and Employment; Additionally, your ability to successfully complete a Credit and/or Driving Records Checks may be conducted if required by the contract for continued employment
Possession of an INTERIM SECRET security clearance is required to begin employment; Ability to maintain a SECRET security clearance is required for continued employment
US Citizenship is required
A Bachelors degree plus a minimum of 3 years of directly related experience or equivalent experience in lieu of education.
Advanced degree, experience working for the Federal Government, experience in training and writing technical documentation.
